All good things must come to an end.

After 44 years on the head coaching job, Argyle girls basketball coach Skip Townsend will retire.

The Hall of Famer won his ninth career state title, his fourth with Argyle.

The Lady Eagles have now won the last four state hardwood titles, but the fourth one is the last one for Townsend.

Prior to Argyle, Townsend went on to win six state titles with Brock, where he went

Townsend has spent the bulk of his coaching career on the girls side, as he started his career at Eastland along with other tenures at Copperas Cove. He started coaching boys early is his 44-year career, where he had stints in Slidell, Giddings, Gordon, Waelder and both boys and girls at Merkel.

Townsend will wrap up his career with a lifetime record of 1,081-385 and will hold a 140-10 record with Argyle. He will finish the school years as the girls athletic director prior to entering retirement.
