The Lady Falcons of Bushland have been dominant in their recent district games.
Three consecutive shutouts have taken place for Bushland in the past three games. Nothing would change as the Lady Falcons clinched at least a share of the district title with a 6-0 shutout of Pampa.
“I’m excited about our defense,” Bushland coach Michael Rose said, whose team improves to 17-11 and 6-0 in district play. “I still don’t feel like we haven’t played our best game yet. We have allowed three runs in district play, in which those three were against Pampa.”
In the circle for Bushland, Ally Guerrero picked up the win, striking out eight, walking two and allowing four hits in a complete game. For Pampa, Karson Parnell struck out 10, walked five and allowed six hits on six runs.
Pampa started the game with Natalie Winbourne and Kaylee Arnzen getting on base after being hit by pitch for runners on first and second. They would be left stranded as Maggie Hernandez struck out swinging.
Bushland found a run in the early works of the game. McKenna Driver hit a fly ball to center field but Preslee Alvey struggled to field it, due to the winds which wreaked havoc for fly balls throughout the game, to record a RBI single that scored Emily Junnell for the 1-0 early lead.
After a one-two-three inning for the Lady Falcon defense, more runs would come in for the team sitting atop 1-4A standings.
Ashton Nelson recorded a RBI single on a fly out to center that scored Raeley Bates to extend the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Jolee Lytal then hit a two run RBI grounder to center field that scored Hanna Kennedy and Nelson for a 4-0 lead.
Guerrero looked solid for a no-hitter performance after three innings. However, in the fourth inning, that bid would be erased.
Hernandez recorded a single in top half of the fourth that would rule out Gurerrero of her no-hit bid. Pampa then had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard with the bases loaded but a ground out to third baseman Driver ended the inning as Bushland escaped the jam.
With the help from the defense, the Lady Falcon offense had opportunities to extend the lead. Those opportunity were taken well for Bushland. Kaylin Begly recorded her RBI single that brought in Driver for a 5-0 lead after five innings of play.
With Pampa struggling to find a hit from a solid pitching performance from Guerrero, Bushland had the chance to cement the victory.
Junnell poped out to third base for the second out but Nelson came home for the sixth run of the game after an error on first baseman Hernandez.
“This is our best chance to go four, maybe five rounds deep in the playoffs,” said Rose.
Bushland was led by Lytal, who recorded two RBIs while batting one-for-four in her showing at the plate. Begley finished with one RBI while one-for-four. Driver finished her day going two-for-four.
Pampa recorded four hits as two were from Parnell, who went two-for-four to lead the Lady Harvesters offense.
